Hurricane Sandy, which is being called Frankenstorm, is causing a number of problems along the east coast of the United States. Not only is the storm bringing high winds and rain like normal hurricanes, but it is also likely to cause some snow storms up north. It is almost unheard of for a storm that thrives in warm water to cause something like a snow storm.
Most people were not prepared for a hurricane. After all, this is very late in the season for a hurricane to form. As waters start to cool down, it is hard for a storm to gather up enough energy to become a hurricane. However, Sandy had no problem doing so, and that has earned her the name ?Frankenstorm.?
Of course, the cold waters are taking their toll on Sandy. In fact, she will soon break apart and from two smaller storms. These will continue to travel up the east side of the United States. As many as 45,000 National Guard personnel are on high alert as they might be called in for duty.
As of 2pm yesterday, Sandy had winds topping 75 miles per hour (121 kilometers). This means that she has already started to weaken as her winds used to be topping out at 100 miles per hour. If the storm stays on track, meteorologists predict that it will travel just south of the Delaware Bay by Tuesday. From there, it will continue to move towards Baltimore. However, it is important to keep in mind that the path of the storm can still change before it hits landfall.
