A good property manager provides good customer service, has a positive relationship with tenants, and is concerned for the maintenance of the property. That?s why property managers should ensure that the utilities of their rental units are up to snuff, providing improvements when possible. In some places in the USA, surprisingly, water is one of the amenities that property managers should double-check. The quality of your units? tap water may be something to be improved.
There?s a lot of discussion these days about whether bottled water is bad for the environment, because the production of plastic is arguably wasteful when water is plentiful right out of a faucet. If you prefer the taste of that filtered water, some of you may use Brita or Pur or other water filtration systems from your sink. But if you have traveled outside of the USA, you know that there are places in the world where drinking the tap water is downright unsafe. Are there any such places in the USA?
The following states have tap water that has more violations than the rest of the states, in the range of 15-19%: Nevada, Idaho, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, North Carolina, Arkansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Alaska, according to an article published in 2011.
If you are in Nebraska, you may want to compare the stats on drinking tap versus bottled water because you have in the range of 20-24% violations in your state, the most of any state in the union. But though Nebraska is the only state, they aren?t alone: Washington, D.C. has a similar amount of violations!
In another piece published in 2011, the cities with the most suspect drinking water were highlighted. You should be aware if you live in and manage properties in these cities and counties. In order, Pensacola, FL; Riverside, CA; Las Vegas, NV; Riverside County, CA; Reno, NV; Houston, TX; Omaha, NE; North Las Vegas, NV; San Diego, CA; and Jacksonville, FL. If you live or rent in these locations, it will be worth your while to use and encourage use of water filtration systems. It will make your units safer and you will be the kind of property manager tenants want.
