Don Elliman ( | )
Don Elliman has been named chancellor of the University of Colorado Denver/Anschutz Medical Campus, the university announced Friday.
Elliman has held the job on an interim basis since February 2012.
Last week, CU president Bruce Benson said he would ask the Board of Regents to bypass the search process and install Elliman permanently. He said then that passing on a search would save the university $200,000 and months of time.
Benson informed the CU Denver community of his intention with a letter further describing Elliman's value to the institution. While acknowledging the importance of the traditional search process, he noted that Elliman's particular skill set, coupled with the "pressing challenges and opportunities" at CU campuses, make him the right person for the job.
The regents on Wednesday voted unanimously to grant the waiver.
"We are fortunate to have someone of Don's caliber at this critical juncture in our university's history," Benson said in a news release. "He is an experienced, energetic leader who is fully invested in the success of CU Denver/Anschutz Medical Campus."
Elliman will be chancellor over the downtown Denver campus and the Anschutz Medical Campus, which share administrative functions. His salary remains unchanged at $350,000 per year.
Elliman, who came to CU Denver with a long r?sum? in the public and private sectors, was assumed his duties last April. He replaced another interim chancellor, former Denver Public Schools Superintendent Jerry Wartgow.
